Gibraltar who for years had a closed border with Spain which was only opened through EU pressure and negotiations,Brexit may now mean Spain will have the right to close the border again. There is certainly a lot of misreporting and scaremongering going on in the press.

It is important not to forget that the EU is a comparatively recent innovation. We had a land border between the Irish Republic and N. Ireland before the EU was ever thought of. There will, in practical terms, not be a problem after we split from the EU. It would not be in Ireland's interest to be awkward over that issue, nor indeed for the UK. The two countries will make it work.

As for Gibraltar, in my view the UK will not give it back or negotiate on the issue. The Spanish may close the border (and put hundreds of Spanish people out of work in the process). They have done that before and Gibraltar survived. The UK would make sure that is the case. Without a doubt. On the other hand if the people of Gibraltar wanted to live under Spanish rule that would be another story.

The PM is another Thatcher and will not be bullied.

We live in changing times and have always done so. The military are not sacrosanct when it comes to change. If they got rid of the hundreds of top brass and their whopping pay cheques and started to live in a modern world with realistic expectations that would be a good starting point. We no longer rule three quarters of the world.

Finally, I would suggest that in 10 - 15 years time the EU as we now know it will not exist. The only countries who will cling to it are those who don't have a viable economy and who see the present set up as a free cash cow.

Dave.
