One thing I have never fully understood is whether the Wyvern or the Griffin is the true heraldic representation of Wessex. I have heard the same arguments and justifications applied to both and on the new Royal Wessex Yeomanry badge they have gone with the Griffin which is disappointing as it breaks the link with the TA in the South West and the 43rd Wessex Division.
