Hello Andrew

As far as I am aware the battalion only ever had this one design of button, although they may, of course, have used the regular pattern at some time.

The backmarks used by Pearse changed very little over the years which makes dating one of their buttons rather difficult. I understand that they became part of the Compton Sons & Webb 'empire' in 1924 which would put your button before that date if nothing else.

They used both 'I & B Pearse & Co London' and 'J & B Pearse & Co London'. I have no real evidence to back it up but I have always thought that the use of 'I & B...' was earlier than 'J & B...'.

Roger
