The Scully marked badge is an excellent example of the issue associated with WW2. Few Strathcona's badges are maker marked, and that adds to your example. And, there doesn't appear to be fraudulent Scully marks being used in the badge market. (Yet.)
The first badge is the one associated with the CEF. It was discussed in this thread, http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7144&highlight=strathcona's.
By coincidence, Chris Brooker has one of these on auction right now. A comparison with his lot seems to be a badge from the same die. Note the "distant" beaver on both badges, etc, etc... http://cgi.ebay.com/CANADA-L-S-H-R-C...4#ht_500wt_975.
Just a note for posting. The "tag" feature can be used to find posts within threads that have titles that don't reflect the contents. Adding "tags" helps search functions. I used the word Strathcona's as a tag in the string above and that helped me when I searched the forum.
