Gentlemen, how brilliant are you both? Fantastic result.
I posted the enquiry having stumbled across an article in The Hexham Courant of 11 July 2014 about one Herbert Vipond, who lost his horse to the Army, volunteered, and bumped into his horse again. Warhorse writ large!
Don't ask me to post a link to the article: their search system defeats me!
As it happens Vipond is a name associated with Cumbria, but I would bet he ended up in the NF's or the ASC: after the war he became a milkman I recall.
Do we know which Bn. of the NF's? My bet? 4NF.
