I did a quick check on Ancestry for Herbert Vipond. There were 113 results and one (a Joseph Herbert Vipond) is listed as born in 1893 in Northumberland , Newcastle. A search in the Medal Rolls indicated that a man called Joseph Vipond served in the Northumberland Fusiliers. Is this possibly the one?.....many people use their middle names in everyday life and so this seems a good possibility. A J.H.Vipond is listed in the Medal Rolls having served in the ASC.
