So are you saying that British Army officers actually wore die cast bronze finished badges in South Africa, on campaign, in 1899?

OSD badges were worn in the Boer war 1899 to 1901 and at home as well. This particular badge was purchased by me from Minden Miltaria in 2015 and the site owner, Rod Flood, (one of the countries leading dealers) provides assurance that this badge is correct.
