VC Medal Groups
Lots of media hype, political chest-pounding and fabricated national euphoria over another VC medal group - whoopee! Not all the VC medal groups currently held by the CWM are on public display so what difference is there if they are stashed in a collector's box or a vault in the museum? If these medals are so important to our history and national culture then why where they not acquired decades ago when the recipients were passing away in obscurity?
I can think of numerous ways in which 600K could be better spent, just have a look out back of the museum at all of the vehicles and warship gun turrets that are 'stored' at the mercy of the elements. Has anyone ever noticed that the vehicles in the Lebreton Gallery are in a permanent state of a 'work-in-progress', but I guess proper restorations, correct paint/markings and working vehicles just don't cut it with the politicians, press and public when the purchase of shiny bobbles is easier to justify.
