Michael,

Northumberland Const. began wearing helmets in the 1870's and the badge under discussion was worn. However, they discarded that badge circa. 1885 and in its place adopted a star pattern with a QVC on top. This was worn until the death of the Queen in 1902 when the same badge but with a King's Crown atop was adopted. Hope this is helpful.
