I dug out the following info, which may be of interest.

There were two different units named Transkei Mounted Rifles.

The first was a volunteer unit in the Cape Colonial Forces. It was formed in 1894, and amalgamated with the Border Light Horse and the Tembuland Light Horse in 1909, to form the Cape Light Horse.

Dress regulations approved in 1896 prescribed a grey smasher hat with a blue and white spotted puggaree, and "monogram of the corps in white metal on side". Might this be the badge posted by Alex in post #2?

The second TMR was an Active Citizen Force unit in the Union Defence Forces. It was established in 1913 as the 19th Mounted Rifles (Transkei Mounted Rifles), and disbanded in 1929.

The insignia posted by shahldm in post #1 clearly relate to this unit.
