All returned diggers were issued with this badge in brass, the Navy had a different badge with an anchor, a rubber stamp was placed on the back of the Discharge Certificate and the number was written onto the stamp in ink, the same occurred for the larger silver British badge. I have the discharge certificate for a family member and his medals and both the Aussie and the British badges and the number of each badge was written on its rubber stamp on the back of the discharge Certificate.
I hope that this helps, however I cant help with identifying the recipient.
