Peter,

Its a standard P.17 fitting for US webbing belts, which had parallel rows of holes along their length from which to hang pouches, bayonet, water bottle etc.

The HG usually slipped a leather or webbing frog over the scabbard to use on their leather or web belts. I have also seen the fittings removed completely.

Also came with a P.07 scabbard as a replacement.
