1.The genuine article in good condition.
2.Rear of above, but has been coated in something in the past and no, I'm not going to try and remove it. It's my home City.
3.The full set for the 38th Div,16th (City of Cardiff) Welsh Regt. From the family of the gentleman concerned.
4.The nice and the downright fraudulent. The one on the left is another well worn example I have, compare it with the fake on the right and there is no comparison.
5.Reverse of the above. Note that the faker decided to add a slider to what was only issued as a collar badge. The fake is on the right for those in doubt.
As an extra note of caution the fake was bought in the Museum shop in Albert.
Only 2000 approx of these badges were made. They were not issued to reinforcement drafts.
As such, the vast majority of those you see for sale will be fakes. There have been a few coming up through less well known dealers recently which look o.k but have a slightly off cast strike. Possibly miss strikes from the original die.
All you have to do is note the vast difference between the genuine and the modern fake pattern.
