Robin,

Eddie has made a good point even though this badge isn't an original. Keep it and treasure it as a memento in the spirit in which is was given to you. Study the information that is available on the forum and in time you will no doubt be in a position to acquire the real thing armed with the knowledge to do so.

Don't be put off by the fact that a lot of the badges you will come across are restrikes or fakes. Handle them and learn from them but don't be tempted to accept that a badge is genuine just because you want it to be, that will only lead to confusion and disappointment.

Remember also that in most cases, a genuine badge would have been worn by a soldier in its time and you will come to appreciate and learn from the history attached to the badge and the unit that it represents.

A little bit of a challenge for you Robin. Have a look at the badges in this thread:

You will find at least one badge to a regiment that had members serving in the battle of Arnhem. If you can point out one or more from the badges that are still available I will send them to you as additions to your collection.

Good luck.

Ry
