I never complain that the CO gets a cot to sleep on out in the field, since we're depending on him to be able to make decisions with a clear head on behalf of all of us....

I'd suggest it's not a "parachute" smock per se, buts a camouflage smock. It was issued to scouts and snipers in infantry battalions as well, with modifications authorized to adapt it to those roles.

ORs were indeed battle bronze, or brass. Silver was worn by officers, with white metal/nickle plated etc. worn by the pipes and drums.
