Cap badge how to clean it?

Hello All
I have this Cameron cap badge with some red "dots" (not sure if it is some sort of corrosion?).
Is it possible to clean it? Or is it better not to touch it as it would damage it?

Could somebody explain how to recognize à British Army WWII shoulder title? What are the characteristics and how to distinguish them from post war and fakes?

I have been collectiong patches for few years now, mainly US WWII and have always been interested in British military patches and cap badges...
