I've had this one for some time. It's a 1943 dated FS Cap badges to the Radnor Home Guard. Heavily starched and the crown sewn together. The lugged badge appears to be the only one that has been on the cap with the outline of the badge now impressed on the cloth.

I have a similar cap badge that came with a couple of other Radnor pieces. The 'KC' version is unusual, the re-strike QC 2nd Phase version being as common as muck.

Technically it's a Guelphic crown rather than a King's crown, but I agree that this 1st pattern is certainly not as common as the much coped QC variant with the H.G. added into the title.

I've had a chance to take the badge off, not as easy as you'd think as the lugs were bent to position just so. Allied with the level of starching applied and the fact that the crown has been sewn together the owner was very fastidious concerning his appearance. The one photo shows the impression of the badge on the cloth.

I have a first pattern with Guelphic crown & a second pattern with the Queen's crown but both have sliders not lugs. Are both types of fixing correct?

This landed on the doormat this morning. Would anyone with a believed original or in the know care to give an opinion?

It appears to be from the same die as the badges shown in 1st edn Gaylor (1969) and also K&K (1973). Note the wonky middle jewel of the coronet and the lop sided guelphic crown.
