Windows 10
 

Microsoft is making a concerted effort to get me (and millions of others) to upgrade to Win 10. Supposedly a seamless process?
Or, is t is fraught with danger?
Comments and observations?

My son.... accidentally triggered the upgrade..... switched the laptop off half way ......and totally buggered the laptop. The upgrade had created two partitions and the Win 8.1 system was trying to "mend" itself but was being blocked by the Win 10. Took a month to figure it out and get it working again.

ANY new Windows should not be installed until at least 2 years "after" its release date!!! In that way you are not going to get shafted by the bugs.

I eventually decided to upgrade from 7 to 10, "what a mistakea to makea". It took three (3) days over Christmas to do this on a very fast broadband connection.

What a load of crap. I had to reorganise my internet Favourites, reload ALL my passwords to forums, on top of some of my programmes not working. So it was back to 7, took about 5 minuets, then I was told I would have to reload some of my programmes, it was only 1 in the end. But my email is still not working properly. It still wants to down load millions of deleted emails, even those that have been deleted using the windows instructions. Where it gets them from is now beyond me. Not recommended and crap, that was the comment sent to windows when asked. Of course this is only my opinion and experience.

Forgot to mention it lost all my home Security CCTV connections, so they had to be reinstalled when I got home.

It buggered up my mum's laptop. It uninstalled the touch pad , keyboard and mouse drivers, left her sitting on the password screen and unable to do anything, she couldnt even switch it off without removing the battery. £200 later at the local repair shop she had to have an entire new win 7 installation, lost all her files and programs etc.

Wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

I was told xp was the peak of Windows and its been going back down hill since then.

My personal laptop has the old version and works fine and so far I have ignored the attempts to get me to upgrade to win 10.

I was recently supplied with a new laptop by my company which as it is brand new came with win 10 already on it and it works fine, though as I am comfortable and familiar with using the older version, it is a bit of a pain to navigate around it when doing stuff, so I only use it for company emails and for logging into the company vpn's.

Perhaps over time I will become more familiar with it and will see the benefits, though I tend to think that upgrades are largely done to keep the software designers in work and to get us to keep shelling out for the newer versions.

I've noticed too that it's trying to get me to switch. Now that I've read everyone's comments it's confirmed that I was right in not doing so. I'm perfectly happy with what I've got (Windows 9, I think, which came with my new computer last year), so why would I want to change? The buggeration factor and the visits from Mr Cock-up are too big an incentive to leave things alone. As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I've crossed to Apple. I'm a complete computer mong, but Apple is great. No problems what soever.

My "tame techie" told me to avoid the free upgrade like the plague, so I did.

People that I know have had no end of trouble with it, have lost information, had to re-format etc.

I made the mistake of up loading it on to my new computer and it has messed it up no end I can only use it for 10 minutes or so and stops working or I get page can not display went back to my old computer.

That is all very good advice. I shall leave well alone and ignore Mr Gates' quasi junk mail. Mike

It annoys me that I cant get rid of the pop up notifications.

I have updated a desktop from windows 7 and a laptop from windows. 8. Both went smoothly without issue. The GUI is a little differs but I prefer it over windows 7 and it is far superior to windows 8.

My belkin router software had some difficulty as a windows 10 versionwas not available but no real issues with the upgrade ,

Last Autumn I had problems with my laptop (unconnected to Windows 10) and had to put it into PC World to get it fixed. In the course of conversation with the techy I mentioned Windows 10 and was told in no uncertain terms to stick with Windows 7 as long as I can. Personally I was quite happy with Windows 3, but I suppose if we didn't move with the times we'd still be living in caves and painting ourselves blue. :p

I also agree with the comment about keeping software engineers in work by forcing us to by re-invented wheels. And as for Apple, I'd rather be tasered in the genitals than use any of their products.

Please, Please, Please DONT you will regret it. Even if you do revert back to Win 7, your computer will never be the same again. Microsoft should be prosecuted over this fiasco.
