I would like to check the authenticity of these badges please. I am happy with the flat backed one. The other I have seen described as a later economy issue. Is that correct ?

This is what I've been told too over the years. Unfortunately, re-enactor companies have been knocking out very good quality repros - without any deliberate new identification marks - that are impossible/near impossible to distinguish. They have even been restriking the plastic Timber Corps badges exactly the same.

IMHO the one on the right has the modern fake badge font.

The more I look at it, the more I believe that the badge on the right hand side is wrong....the enamel is not at all convincing. It just does not feel right. The one on the left is good.
