Royal Scots a/a with blade fittings
 

I've just bought an anodised Royal Scots badge with OSD style blades on the back. I've never come across this before with a/a badges - is this usual? The badge is definitely a/a, though it feels a tiny bit heavier.

Also made by Dowler ,with blades but none mod issue

Although made by DOWLER perhaps marketed as part of the Danbury Mint set?

Hi David,
If not part of the Danbury mint collection, I assume these Dowler made badges were part of a collectors set of some sort? I'm fairly certain that the bladed type AA badges were not part of MOD issue as such (with the exception of the chaplains AA cap badges).

Any further info on the origin at all?

Thanks. The DOWLER made badges on David's Highland Division card have blades which appear identical to items in the Danbury Mint set. I understand that DOWLER amalgamated with/were taken over by FIRMIN in 1969 although the firms continued to trade under separate maker names. The Danbury Mint publicity material states that their badges are made by "FIRMIN & Sons" and the set was marketed in the 1980s/early 1990s. It would be a reasonable assumption that the badges with blades produced for Danbury Mint were sourced from "both" companies.
It is important to recognise the difference between 'making (manufacture)' and 'marketing (selling).
Danbury Mint sell, they do not make.

I cannot remember the year, but they were being given away as promotional items at the Royal Tournament in Earls Court.
