At Curragh Camp...
Thought I'd share this find... a great little group photo taken at Curragh Camp (date not known):
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=142719 Can't quite ID the unit, but great to have the men named individually. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=142718 http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=142715 http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=142712 (May be offered for sale soon). Regards to all, JT |
Presumably research on the names will ultimately identify the regiment if no one IDs it from the badge.

That badge looks interesting.... is that an "8"? There is a device on the fusil as well.

Captain W. B. Davidson-Houston, 5th Battalion the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Dated 1st January,. 1898 :D
The London Gazette, July 5th 1901, page 4474. * Its must be a "5" on the badge.... not an "8". |

Many thanks. |
The Royal Dublin Fusiliers had that rather natty little title scroll under their grenade. It comprised gilt letters on a blue enamel ground. I will try to post a colour photo of the cap and badge over the next few days.

I have a pic of it on the cap somewhere. Forum member, John Mulcahy, would love to see the photos methinks. |
Hi Toby, Thanks it is a great badge, sent John this photo along with others years ago. also an Irish dealer at the Bangor fair said they are always missing the Blue enamel when they do turn up. regards John

Here you go and yes the blue enamel is missing on this example. I did see one listed on a dealer site a while ago with the blue enamel still present but the asking price was excessive IMHO.

Hi Toby,
I think it's just the lighting/patina. |
