Norfolk Fire Brigade Cap Badge?

Have looked around but can find no info re: this badge.

An interesting badge. Norfolk Fire Brigade (controlled by Norfolk County Council) was only formed in April 1948, following the disbandment of the National Fire Service. Prior to the NFS being established, the police in the larger towns such as Great Yarmouth, Norwich, & King's Lynn were responsible for firefighting. Police insignia being worn. In the country districts volunteer brigades operated often under the management of the Rural or Urban District Council's. Generic badges were usually worn.

Your badge suggests military as opposed to a civil use but I could be wrong. Its a nice badge and obviously one with some age. I hope this is helpful.

I have tried to find out about this badge in the past, no joy really other than possible Britannia airways, who few out of Norwich.

I would like to buy this badge if its for sale at some point, just because I like it.

A bit of a stab in the dark here but nothing ventured, nothing gained. The former London and North Western Railway had the figure of Britannia as the central part of the company crest. They had a very large works at Wolverton with it's own works fire brigade so I suppose it's possible that it could have been worn by them. The LNWR amalgamated with others in 1922 so it would date the badge to that time. Just a thought.:)

Thanks for all the info.

Must admit I had no idea about the badge except the quess that the axes pointed to firemen equipment hence some sort of fireman's badge.

I'll look further too re: airways and railways but if any more info or guesses then very please to hear them.

Good thinking on your behalf. However, the LNWR Britannia had a trident, not a laurel spray.

Yes, of course. On the LNWRailway Co. version, Britannia holds the trident in her right hand. Her left hand is down resting on the shield on which is depicted the Union Flag. Back to the drawing board!

Anyone thought of contacting the Mid Norfolk Railway Trust....?? They have a lot of re-enactor, historical specialist meetings including I think I've seen a fire brigade one.... maybe they would either know or might be prepared to laminate a small poster for you?

Arthur, you're quite right about the trident, plus I also overlooked the lion behind Britannia on the LNWR crest.:D

My first thoughts about the Britannia on this badge went along the lines of the badge maker had used a Royal Norfolk die to save costs and make the badge..............but there are a few major design changes between the two
The fire service badge has no stem on the laural leaf, the R.Norfolk has.
The shield is not on the ground on the fire service badge, it is on the R.N
Fire service badge Britannia has lost her top curves........R.Norfolk type has two of them,expecting some flak over that.
Fire service Britannia has a scarf
and lastly FS Britannia right leg is not as neatly tucked behind her left leg, unlike the R.Norfolk type.
