Couple For Id

Hi all,
I have these two buttons I'm looking for some help with. First is a dug gilt button with NORTH D on it's face. My thought is North Dragoons but can't find another button like it online or in any of my books so possibly a militia button or similar. No back stamp on this button. 2nd button is a gilt 28th button of I'm assuming an Indian regiment rather than a British one. Date wise I'm thinking 1850-1900 ish? Any help appreciated and these will be sold at some point. Thanks, Phil |
Phil,
My first thought was that the first is an abbreviation of Northumberland. regards |
Could make sense as I've had volunteers buttons where volunteers has been abbreviated down to VOLRS with RS being smaller lettering similar to the D on this button.

Hello Phil
Simon is correct regarding the first button, Northumberland Militia, early 1800s I would say. Your 28th Regiment is indeed Indian Army, 28th (Punjab) Regiment, Bengal Infantry, roughly 1860s-1901. Regards Roger |
The "North D" button is shown in Ripley & Darmanins book English Infantry Militia Buttons, No 177 and is indeed Northumberland Militia.
