No, you did not read the title wrong- what were collar boss badges?
I refer to this quote when posing my question.

20.09.39. WOL 54/Gen/8632 (HGO7b): The Army Council modified the Dress of Officers and Soldiers for the duration of the war. Gorget patches were not to be worn on BD. Commanders of Formations only were to wear a scarlet cord boss at each point of the collar of BD.

Covered in Brian L Davis's book, "British Army & Insignia of WW2" and a coloured drawing of the boss shown on P. 84.

Worn by Commanders of Formations from May - November 1940 only.

Following up on my previous thread, please find attached photos of what I now believe to be collar boss badges. The actual woven and corded boss has been stitched to a circular GM plate that has two lugs (similar to method used on Suffolk Regt mess Dress collar badges).

They measure 28mm in diameter and 17mm (discounting length of lugs). This is slightly larger than the average headdress boss badge.
