Hi found these yesterday a " Bloomsbury Rifles I think F. S. badge " any ideas on date, could this be a collar?
Officers Silver/Gilt R.A.M.C. (Firmin London to rear) right in thinking cap badge?
Jersey or Guernsey? very small not seen one this size any ideas on date?
Australian returned Soldier "250210" to rear would think these are not uncommon?
Belgium Brigade Piron? Any info on where worn am thinking WW2 but?
Lastly no idea though busted! What was it?

Billy,

The Bloomsbury Rifles badge is pre 1908, what are the fixings, loops I suspect and probably a F/S badge.

The Jersey badge with a slider is I think a cap badge with the cross broken or removed.

The last badge with the missing crown is a generic Militia Glengarry.

Only an opinion on these badges.

Hi lads, Phil here is reverse! for the Jersey badge, the removal of the cross legs has been done very neatly and caught me out! Recognised it but didn't twig to why it was familiar and why it was different? Was this common practice?

Milmed the reason I had the R.A.M.C. as an Officers badge is that it had a Maroon backing patch, these I am of the opinion where for cap badges and not used behind collars? removed to clean badge and it as was very grubby, opinion for backing material behind collars would be appreciated! The ‘Dull Cherry’ backing is not worn by officers with the head-dress badge, nor indeed behind the collars - or on other ranks collars for that matter.

However, there do exist officers maroon backed embroidered beret badges; these are intended to be worn with the affiliated coloured beret of the ‘airborne’ element.

I too, would agree your RAMC badge is an officers collar.

the Aussie badge is reasonably common, and the are often on e-bay. Issued from 1916 onwards (I don't know for how long, but imaging till ~1920. They seem to have a bit of a trading range, probably to do with the number on the back, lower numbers = higher price, I suppose. A bog standard one goes for between 10 to 30 quid - not sure why some go for the upper amount, some the lower. There were several makers, Stokes (in Melbourne) being the main one. I seem to recall Amor (in Sydney) also made them, but in the post war period I think, so maybe they are cheaper.

All good Billy, I'm not 100% about the Amor timeline, and I actually don't think it makes much of a difference. Sometimes it's simply down to a couple of bidders having a go, or not, that determines price. It's a lovely badge, and you should be well pleased as it's a fine example.

1946 for Amor I believe as far as RAS badges went but they were active from at least 1912 into the late 1950s making badges for Army so could be other periods or contracts not specified.

Update by Chipper on the Australian Returned Servicemans badge the blokes name was a Cpl O, Hara, so must have been Irish originally and served in the Australian Motor Transport Section, issued 1921, brilliant what can be found out, cheers Chipper
