Good afternoon

What to you think about this badge? It does show some wear and a feint clamp seam on the slide

Many thanks

Martyn

Hi Martyn,

I'm no expert, but it looks okay to me. Often, the fakes will have lugs and very thin lettering- just look online. There''s one I'm happy with in my album.

KR,

Pete.

Many thanks Pete that's nice to know. I will take a look at the example tonight.

Regards

Martyn

Martyn,

Just to add my 'vote of confidence' to Pete's; I believe your badge to be good.

When you look in Pete's album you'll see a die flaw between the bottom right hand side of the shield and the scroll which your badge does not have. One can speculate that your badge is from earlier in the production run, whilst Pete's is from later, but we'll never know. I have seen badges in both states, and some in between...

The birds are far better detailed than in the reproductions, which also have skinnier script.

Best regards,

Tim

Many thanks Tim again this was a chance find. I like this badge and it does have the look of natural minor wear.

The cap badge actually being worn by members of Sussex Volunteer Training Corps.

The nice Sussex Martlets, long associated with my county.

A martlet in English heraldry is a heraldic charge depicting a stylized bird similar to a house martin or swallow, with stylised feet.

Your county? I thought Red Kites were more out your way?

Hove. Born and bred.

Or, as the residents were reputed to say, with finger elegantly cocked "Hove, actually!"

Lincolnshire came later.

Ah, the lure of sheep was stronger than that of birds?
Sorry, off topic.......
