Could it be a " County Constabulary " ie would they also have had buttons on their uniforms saying " Police " or would their uniforn buttons have only said "Constabulary ". Anybody have any info on this

Been doing some research and the Dublin Metropolitan Police were not founded until 1836 four years after Edward Jones stopped making buttons , it could the " Dublin Horse Police " who were active in the 1820's and wore a very military style uniform , they were mainly ex soldiers . Anybody seen examples of buttons from this force

For information, the Dublin Met. Police buttons were always named as such. So, as you've already suggested, I'd discount that force.

Also, I'm fairly confident that it is not from an English/Welsh County Constabulary. It is obviously a very, very early item.

Dave.

The Harp on the button is very similar to the Irish Harp on irish coins of the George Third period , so i'd safely say it's a button of an irish police force of the early 1800's time period, Unless it has something to do with one of the Irish Militia's , who i know this button maker also made buttons for.
