TANK CORPS

Hello all,
This Tank Corps badge has just been acquired. I liked to look of it, tapered slider,
and the crispness of the strike. Comments are most welcome.

Looks nice to me :)

I would prefer to see the slider attached to the 'TANK' scroll. But that's just me.
Tony.

Regarding the slider. From the front, the slider doesn't look tapered to me. From the back, it looks like the camera was held at an angle, giving the illusion that the slider is tapered.

Phil2M 12-01-18 09:17 PM

Measuring the image from the front, it tapers. Just not enough to be immediately obvious.

Hello Phillip,
The slider is tapered. It is 7mm at the bend and 5mm at the narrow end. Just used a vernier caliper to confirm the sizing.
Regards,
Michael

That is a very interesting badge, I don't think I've ever seen another like it either, it is certainly not typical of all the modern copies of the TC that are around, has anyone else got an example?

Hi, that type was possibly made by J&Co, or someone made it from that badge, I'm not sure if J&Co actually made o/r's badges. The slider on originals is attached to the title. It has been copied both in brass and w/m and I'm sure there is probably a bronze version as well. Unfortunately, for those reasons, I think this one is a copy, sorry Mike

TANK CORPS badge.

Thank you gentlemen for all of the interesting responses. It got me thinking, so I went all through my reference material and came across a printed photograph of a TANK CORPS badge in a book titled BRITISH ARMY CAP BADGES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR by Peter Doyle and Chris Foster. On page 121 THE TANK CORPS badge appears to have a tapered prong. Measuring the photo, it's 5mm at the top
and 4mm at the tip.
Again comments are most welcome.
Michael

General comment on the book- some images of scarce badges and good to have colour pictures but not all badges are 'good' examples. Also some images are distorted. Regards, Paul.

Hi, here are a J&Co bronze, two original badges, one of which has the slider replaced, maybe as it has been voided below the crown and would have been weak with the slider attached to it. The other two are copies of the above badges, best wishes Mike

It would be worth staying away from any badge offered by this on-line seller, comments regarding their items have appeared on the forum previously.
