Interesting Press photo of the Seaforth I assume it is post victory in Europe. Note the use of the much hated 1923 pattern other ranks cap badge, coronet and cypher removed.

Jim,

RH Roy's history says the "proper" cap badges were a gift from the Imperial Seaforths. Is it possible that the regiment had a stock of the Canadian Government issue badges and issued them to soldiers who joined the Seaforths in Canada or came to the active battalion as reinforcements?

More than just likely Phil. When I took over as RQ in the early 90's there were still a few in the badge drawer, all modified. I do not believe that they saw much use at any time and were only pushed out by stores if there was a shortage of the Imperial pattern type. There are a few photos like this one in the Regimental Archives which show the badge in use, mostly WW2 and towards the end of the war. All photos of trg in England show OR's wearing the standard imperial pattern. I have been perusing the old records trying to find any reference to badge and accoutrement facts I have not had much luck. Now that the entire Armoury contents are in storage while the building is seismically upgraded the Museum is attempting to digitize all archived material and more interesting facts and photos are seeing the light of day. I will post more in the future.

Jim
