106 cap badge ?
 

Hi All,

following a purchase yesterday, I am having difficulty identifying the use of this badge. It is to the 106th and has bombay light infantry around the 106, persia under the crown and honours for Reshire, bushire and Koosh-ab. As you can see, may have been re-luuged at some point. Nothing in K and K and nothing I can see on internet.

Hi Simon,

I only posted yesterday...I am only looking for advice as I am fairly new to badge collecting. I am obviously concerned if this badge is some sort of fantasy piece and it will go back to the seller if neccessary...

Could it be a local variation of a shako badge? Looks to be of typical Indian construction.

Attached is a 106 Foot Shako with badge.

My first thought was Shako but this badge only measures 42mm high x 36mm wide, or does that fit within shako measurements ? Again, please forgive my ignorance...

It certainly looks like a copy, perhaps of an alternative 106 Glengarry Badge to the one that appears in KK. I have several light infantry badges that don't appear in KK.

With glengarry badges serially faked for well over 100 years I'd argue its almost impossible to spot a real one without provenance - but they were never officially cast.

Interesting for reference though as I'd assume that a real badge was the original master somewhere down the line - I'd have bought it if it was cheap.

I used to have this badge in anodised.............yes that's what I said lol. My father had bought a number of badges for me when I was about 10 and had just started collecting in the 1970's. The badges had come from a famous badge catalogue based in Pakistan which members have shown on here before. It was very poorly made. And as said before may have come from some sort of original die but just made with crap material.

Like I said......

Typical 'sand cast' Indian / Pakistani bazaar work. Most of these are made for the tourist trade and while origianlly were usually copied from real badges, one now sees 'fantasy' pieces in which the 'artist' has changed or imporved on an actual badge presumably to make it, in his eyes, more saleable.

Just an update on this badge. Following further research with a well known dealer, looks like the badge is all good. Dead Sparten has listed one today..

Being for sale on a dealers website is no guarantee on it being original and correct I am afraid.

No disrespect to Robbie at Dead Spartan who is a top guy, BUT, the one on his website looks equally as bad as yours.

I agree. The fact that two show up 'together' in time and space [both UK acquired?], relatively speaking, suggests even more strongly to me that they are recent pieces from the sub-continent, which produces literally tons of stuff every year for tourists, collectors and re-enactors. :(
