I have been looking all morning for these badges but i cannot identify them. Any assistance would be greatly appreciate.

Both are WW2 Italian Army, The first one could be Italian Colonial Infantry,the second one could be 40th Infantry Regiment.

Not that I know any different, but would WW2 Italian badges be surmounted by a crown?

Yes they were.Italy was still a monarchy under King Victor Emmanuel 111..that is until 1946.
