Elusive button maker

I have a silvered large Victorian HAC (Infantry) button but can find no information on the maker, possibly because of possible misconception of the name. It appears to be TRATER & Co. LONDON, but could just as well be PLATER or FLATER. However, none of these names turned up. Appreciate and assistance

Hello GTB

Might I suggest 'Prater & Co London' as one possibility. I have a record of military buttons with this backmark.

Roger

Hi Roger
Yes, must be Prater - I don't know why I wrote Plater!!!
How absolutely silly of me not to double check my typing. Sometimes the keyboard stubbornly takes on a mind of its own.

Do you have a time-frame for this maker?

Hello GTB

Not much help date-wise I'm afraid. All I have recorded is that the backmark appears on buttons dating from the mid to late Victorian period.

Not to worry. I was mulling over whether to assign button to pre or post 1881
