In-Depth Study on Spotting Reproduction British Army Cap Badges

Just discovered a superlative blog page describing/discussing how to discern restrike and reproduction British Army cap badges. The author of this effort, who may well be a member of this forum, certainly deserves acknowledgement and commendation for an outstanding effort. The URL of the blog is: http://britisharmycapbadges.blogspot.com/. I copied the contents to retain as a hard copy reference. The material is truly an excellent effort in advanced forensic analysis of badges. It may be 'Coals to Newcastle' for some of the forum's 'seasoned veterans', but to have this amount of information in one place certainly is convenient for the rest of us.

I would have thought that any visit to eBay would give one an 'in depth' view of reproduction badges.:p

On the Norfolk Regt wwI badge, if the trident has its ends square then a repro it is.

Which could be why Arnhem Jim says

As a novice I would say that this is an excellent piece of work - clearly written and objective. Of course there will be scope for additions and amendments, but is there any work of reference that has ever been 100% accurate?

... or rapidly overtaken by the fakers?

Actually that seems to be based on my ebay guide so thank you for the plaudits.

I don't know who Dave.D is but the similiarites are so close that he appears to have lifted it off my ebay user profile.

That was my thought exactly.

Study on Spotting Reproduction British Army Cap Badges

Hello Alan,
Although I have some guides on the U.S. e-Bay myself I had not seen yours on the U.K. e-Bay. After scanning your guides I concur, a highly probable case of plagiarism! Sincerest form of flattery? I don't think so!

I will have to watch to see if any copies of my efforts end up somewhere else, other than my own blog page (they are there).

I'm absolutely certain if you brought the issue of 'copyright infringement' to e-Bay's attention they would jump right on it with the same alacrity and severity they employ in dealing with fake badge dealers. I'm sorry just couldn't resist. As a small personal measure I will at least remove the 'gentleman's' blog from my links, and replace it with reference to your e-Bay guides. Small solace I know!

In any event your efforts are certainly to be commended and greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Jim

Curious situation. Looks like the same material to me.

What to do?

Well if you do nothing the guy with the blog could claim you've copied his work. You need to get in first if you believe it's yours and complain to the blog host. I assume they'll do nothing but you will have made them aware of the situation.

Your work is being used to present advertising too so someone is gaining financially from it.

Cap badge fakes - don't be taken for a ride

Infantry Regiment badges - How to spot the fakes

Cavalry Army Cap badges - how to spot the fakes

Just noticed ebay have them dated; 2006, the blogger version is 2009

I am not that bothered as the whole reason I wrote them was for public use. I am would be more concerned if he is using them to back up his own commercial activities as it suggest that he knows more than he actually does.
