See attached image. Although I cannot be sure, I suspect the man was in the Middlesex Regiment, with the image dating from approximately 1918/9. The aim of my project is to identify him, but I need some help to confirm key information to help me get started.

Lower right arm appears to have five overseas service chevrons, including one for 1914. Lower left arm has one wound stripe and two Good Conduct chevrons. I take these to suggest that he was probably a pre-war Regular soldier. Is this correct/reasonable?

Above the Good Conduct chevrons is a trade badge. Does anybody recognise it? If so, any information would be appreciated.

The man has a group of medal ribbons. Does anybody recognise them, or suggest what they may represent?

With your help, I may be able to put a name to the face, and tell his story.

The badge above the service chevrons appears to be "LG" within wreath (Lewis Gunner)

LG in wreath = Lewis Gunner

Medal ribbons are unclear but 99% will be a WW1 Trio.

I wasn't sure about the ribbons, but I thought there was an emblem on the first - a rosette on the 1914 Star ribbon or am I imagining that?
A higher resolution scan of the ribbons would be useful if possible.

I’m guessing the full photo shows something to the Middlesex Regt? as I can’t see anything on your man to suggest it ?? If you can show anything connected to them may help ID

Thanks. Many people looked at the badge and the consensus was that it was some kind of "K"; hence the problem. Looking again, I can see the LG.

The lettering and wreath do not match the model images seen in reference books, and looking at internet images, there seems to be quite a variety. What was the reason for this, and does the actual appearance give any potentially useful information (dates, etc)?

I have uploaded a second image. Most of the group appear to be young recruits, plus a few NCOs. Look closely at the sergeant's lower left arm, and I think I can see two wound stripes. Only one man has medal ribbons. If these ribbons are the British, Victory and 1915 medals, would this (potentially) give a "not before" date?

The informal nature and general setting of the photograph would also seem to be very un-Regular Army, hence my dating to 1918/9. Would this match the WWI Trio? Perhaps my assessment is incorrect?
