LUOTC and M&SUOTC`s, why the difference ?

Both Liverpool University OTC and Manchester and Salford Universities OTC were affiliated to the Kings Regiment yet in Hodges " British Army Badges " on page 436, a cadet of the Manchester and Salford unit is wearing a non Royal Regiment No.2 dress cap ( i.e. without the red band ).

Cadets in the Liverpool unit wore a Royal Regiment cap in No.2 dress ( a females version is pictured ).

Both units wear/ wore a red backing on their beret badges reflecting their affiliations to The Kings Regiment, I wonder why there was a difference in their No.2 dress caps ?

Peter,

Probably no other reason than that's what was available. UOTCs do not issue No2 dress as standard (although the Scots UOTCS Pipes and Drums do) and it tends to be issued from a loan pool.

For example Southampton UOTC used to wear the Wessex Regt No 2 dress including Wessex buttons and collars but with SUOTC berets, because that was what they could get hold of.

Could it be that Manchester & Salford UOTC were originally affiliated to the Manchester Regt ? The Manchester Regt not being a Royal Regt weren't entitled to wear a Royal pattern cap .
