Unknown Shoulder flash BTNI?
Just picked up a shoulder flash. Think it is a British Troops Northern Ireland (BTNI) but according to my book BTNI is a blue gate on a black background. The one I have is a red gate on a black background. One of the other one's I have is Northern Ireland District, 2nd pattern. The recent purchase red gate is about half the size of the 2nd pattern white gate on green background. Any ideas?

Btni
I think the red gate on black, is British troops in N.Ireland. The blue gate I've been told is navy. But have no other information on this badge.

There is an article on this sign in the" Formation Sign " issue 226 April-June 2007 in which it is suggested that basis for the colours for the Irish Gate formation signs represent the various levels of command which if I understand correctly are
Headquaters red/black District -do- Brigade blue/black Areas,Districts etc green/black P.B. |
Irish gates
There’s an even better article on the Irish gate signs in The Formation Sign 229; really it’s brilliant, should be made into a film! but then I’m biased I wrote it.

Rolfi,
Apologies, I knew I had seen something on the sign in the" Formation Sign" but I did not go back ( or should that be forward ) far enough to find your article in issue 229. Regards Peter |
