Australian Gen Serv buttons selection

1 Attachment(s)
Am posting a small selection of mainly AMF buttons mainly for comparison purposes, however I would be pleased if I can be provided help in dating.

Top button is the version with state lines on the map. 'K.C. Luke Pty. Ltd. Melbourne', gilding metal.
2nd row is by far the most interesting button (to me). The coastline is finely and sharply delineated, unlike the normal contoured rendering. It is also the only button with the old-style of KC whereby the upper pearl arch is straight, as opposed to the usual curved arch. The bz buttons further down are close to being same style. Backmark: 'A.J. Parke's. Brisbane', brass.
5th row, oxidised copper
Bottom row: (a) 2 RAN buttons - The gilding metal button in bottom row has backmark 'Kitchener Ltd Sydney'. (b) Australian Commonwealth ERVII l & s; (c) ditto GRV

Hello,

I can't really see enough detail in the photo to help but Jeff Cossum in his book "Buttons of the Defence Forces in Australia" illustrates some 20 of these general pattern "Australian Military Forces" buttons and has dates allocated to most of them but as far as I can see the dates do not relate to specific boundaries on the maps on the buttons!

For example, he shows a button "No boundaries marked" with a date of 1914-1930" and another "Northern Territory boundary omitted" dated to the same period, 1914-1930" as well as one "All boundaries marked", again dated to 1914-1930. The variation in boundaries may have just been makers' variations.

Not much help I'm afraid other than to say try and get hold of a copy of the book.

Regards
Roger

"Northern Territory boundary omitted"
There was a time when SA also covered the NT. Was it 1911 when this ceased?

Oz.
