Here comes a combined formation insignia apparently badged to the 12th Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. Still the 12th RHA was and Honourable Artillery Company, so which title would be officially in use? RHA or HAC? For comparison, both HAC and RHA titles of the 12th RHA.

RHA/ HAC

I think that neither are official. The use of metal titles on BD was never sanctioned during WW2, and their use on SD during wartime was severely limited. Any metal titles taken into use were those that soldiers managed to retain, or procure for themselves on the private market. Whether or not the regiment turned a blind eye to this matter, or actively connived to circumnavigate the ACI's is a matter perhaps the HAC museum might advise upon.

It may have been that soldiers from the HAC, and other RHA units were drafted into 12 RHA during wartime, bringing their own titles with them to wear unofficially.

Stephen.

I agree. Horse Gunners seem to regard Dress Regulations as a "basis for negotiation". Which makes it far more interesting for collectors! Mike
