9th Gurkha Rifles.

A new addition to my 9th GR. This predates the unit becoming an all Gurkha unit. Officers Helmet badge for the 9th Bengal Native Infantry worn from 1882 to 85 but in reality probably in use untill 1890's. Alongside a Kilmarnock badge to give an idea of size.

Very nice Steve - I don't know whether you've seen one of these it's the design worn 1861 > 1882 ? There is another version of this albeit with a solid centre and the same battle honours of Bhurtpore, Afghanistan and Sobraon as your example worn during the same period as yours 1882> 1885 (albeit I suspect that the white metal version is the last design). peter sorry for dealy in getting back, It came from Nepal.
Tim,
I am aware of the others. did you know that when the museum insignia publications were prepared the historic photo albums in the possesion of the officers messes of the descendents of the 1st,3rd,4th,5th,8th,9th GR were not consulted? so 9th GR does not contain all details of 9BNI insignia.

regards

Steve

Hi Steve - yes I've been having conversations with Ashok Nath on the very same subject. It does seem a little remiss of the Museum and explains why I keep coming across examples that I'm convinced are genuine but not listed in the publications. I've also been gradually building up my collection of Victorian letterheads and crests to the Gurkha Regiments and believe they may offer a good steer on some badges that might have been worn. Tim
