BC HORSE titles

A set of BC / HORSE metal titles are being offered on ebay at the moment. This pattern is not listed in association with the 31 BC Horse pre-1914 cap badge in Mazeas Canadian Militia Badges Pre 1914. However, these titles are shown in Mazeas Canadian Badges 1920-1950, as C44a. I believe Phil discussed these in another string earlier, and indicated that they were not the 20-50 period.
Scarce titles, and a bit of a confusing provenance.

The dealer who is selling these titles is also selling a 31st BC Horse cap badge, a pair of collar badges and some horse tack.
The 31st BC Horse shoulder titles are curved, 31/BC HORSE.
The BC/HORSE titles have been attributed to the 1st and 2nd Regiments British Columbia Horse. All of these that I have seen were cast.
All of the large pattern 31st BC Horse cap and collar badges that I have seen have the JR Gaunt plate on the back as well as small tangs and a thin brass plate to keep a red cloth backing in the voided portion of the badge.

Hi Chaps

I was lucky enough to find one of the cast BC/Horse shoulder titles which are the subject of this thread (7 years old!).

I had thought it might be from 30th and/or 31st BC Horse, 1911-1920.

However, reading Phillip's comments above this doesn't appear to be the case.

Could someone clarify who wore them please and when? I'm not sure when the 1st & 2nd Regts BC Horse existed.

Any info much appreciated.

David, could you post an image of the title?

Hi Bill

Wish I could but not possible at the moment. Will try to describe:

B.C over (curved) HORSE
cast brass, quite thick gauge
2 "long" brass loops
aprox 45mm wide, 25mm high.

Best I can do for now!

David

PS.... forgot to mention - no sign that it has ever had a number at the top......

I will defer to Phil for his comments. His expertise is on British Columbia regiments.

Just been advised they were worn 1910 until 1911/1912. Hopefully Phil can confirm this, or otherwise!

So Phil, the BC/HORSE titles would date to the 1911 period as you indicate above, in post #2.

That's how I read it - 1911-1912. Certainly not in use for very long!

Word of warning.
Hugh Bondy made copies of these shoulder titles and the 31st BC Horse cap and collar badges for a group of re-enactors.
