Good afternoon

What do people think of these para badges? Do they look original? The second one appears to be plated and the third is a collar dog.

Many thanks

Martyn

Better pictures I hope. The first one is plated, second unplated and the third the collar dog.

Hello Martyn,
I'm always hesitant to render absolute judgement, particularly regarding WWII Parachute Regiment cap badges, but I am more than happy to provide with the following guidance I've been able to develop over time; http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2011/0...cap-badge.html . I hope it may prove of some assistance.

Having read the blog, which is excellent and really well presented, I'm still unsure about my badges. I am less happy about the collar dog.

I don't know if it means anything but my plated badge as a voided crown.

Your plated voided crown badge is fine, story is the first batch were made in G/M, disliked, taken back and plated. Not sure about the second badge but the collar is OK too.

Thank you that's nice to know. I didn't know that about the plated badge. The detail on all of them is pretty good i think but I especially like the plated one.

Best wishes

Martyn

Martyn,
I'm sure your second badge is fine, it is of the type illustrated on a sealed pattern card in a recent British Airborne Insignia book, this type because the rigging lines from the chute do not meet at the bottom is often disregarded by some, you can probably tell by careful examination with your other example there are a few differences other than the voided areas which also affect opinion.

Many thanks Paul

So all three may be correct. That would be really good. I have noticed differences in detail between those two badges so was not sure what to think. The plated one is the nicest I think with crisp detail. I think these came from various boot sales I think.

All three badges are fine. I don't believe the story of the disliked GM badge by the way.

Many thanks jack. Is there plated badge the first type issued? Can these be wartime dated?

I have one of the plated badges with the fretted crown, very nice. And also one of those with the off centre rigging lines, both good imo. There are more than a few variants, even the Gaunt version has off centre rigging

Cheers Jerry those are nice. I picked mine up a while ago in different places. One from a boot sale for a quid. I was lucky I think. They are nice badges.

Thanks Jerry for sharing.
