WW2 Rhodesian Airforce sweetheart

I don't have many sweetheart brooches, but occasionally one comes along that I really like. This week I bought 5 sweethearts from a runner who found them in the garage of a recently deceased relative. This one I thought was a bit special. It is a silver WW2 vintage Rhodesian pilot's wing in silver. On the back is inscribed, "Mum love Ian, Xmas 1940 "I'm guessing that it was made by Keays Jewellers in Salisbury. They made some early Rhodesian badges and it has that look about it. Who was Ian ? Did he survive the War ? We'll never know !

What a great find..!

Lovely engraving to the rear as well. Can't say I have seen anything similar before. Just goest to show what beauties are still out there.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheerio,

Thanks for the interest, gentlemen.
I asked the runner for some history but the only person who might have known was dead.
Ian Douglas Smith, now there's a thought.
