forum access in Israel
Whilst visiting archaeological sites in Israel I got a forum notification saying I did not have permission to view the forum. All other forums worked fine.
Anyone know why? |
It is because of the huge number of bots trying to get onto the forum to offer non badge services by Russian ladies.
Bots break through many a forum's barriers quite frequently and take a lot of resources to clear. I remember a Yahoo military button forum which was overrun. The owner gave it up and it is there, viewed by bots only. One of our senior members once showed this forum to his grandchildren and ended up apologising to his children. He posted a furious message on the forum. |
But why only Israel and why not any of the other forums, just seemingly this forum and Israel?
Spambots are a problem everywhere as far as I know. |
I probably blocked Israel at some time in the past. Normally I can block a range of IP addresses but sometimes it does not work. There will have been a persistent spam issue or something for me to do that. I'll have a look at the file and if I can find the Israel block I'll remove it.

To be honest I could probably remove more county blocks. I see we have Moldova & Ukraine blocked, and a few other eastern countries because of spam.
We do have a sign up spammer checker installed now but it still lets a few through; I can give it a go anyway, see what happens. |
