RCAC question

On the DHH lineages page, in the Armoured Branch (Is this the correct designation? Has not the Armoured Branch been re-designated the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps?), some regiments have the supplementary RCAC designation and others don't. Is there a reason for this?
Eg Ontario Regiment (RCAC) compared to the Fort Garry Horse (no supplementary RCAC). Would this be due to the fact that former cavalry regiments do not need the RCAC, while former infantry regiments do?

Bill,

I think the "RCAC" was added to Infantry regiments that were re-rolled to Armoured before, during or after WWII; but kept their original Infantry regimental title.

The ones that come to mind are - The Halifax Rifles, The Grey and Simcoe Foresters, The Elgin Regiment, The Ontario Regiment, The Queen's York Rangers, The Sherbrooke Regiment. There are a hockey sock full of more like that but they slip my mind right now.

IMHO this is correct. This started in 1958, when secondary designations like (6th Armoured Regiment) were dropped. Thus cavalry regiments returned to their old designations, but former infantry units got (RCAC) added.

In the present list there are the following with (RCAC) at the end:
The Halifax Rifles (RCAC)
The Ontario Regiment (RCAC)
The Queen's York Rangers (1st American Regiment) (RCAC)
The Prince Edward Island Regiment (RCAC)
The King's Own Calgary Regiment (RCAC)
Le Rëgiment de Hull (RCAC)
The Windsor Regiment (RAC)

There are a few more in Ian's list. They were RCAC for some period in time:
The Grey and Simcoe Foiresters (RCAC) , infantry from 1970
The Elgin Regiment (RCAC) , engineers from 1997
The Sherbrooke Regiment (RCAC) , merged with the 7th/11th Hussars to become The Sherbrooke Hussars in 1965
Le Régiment de Trois Rivières (RCAC) , got a definitive "armoured" designation in 1968 as 12e Régiment blindé du Canada
The Algonquin Regiment (RCAC) , infantry from 1965
The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught's Own) (RCAC) . infantry from1985

I tthink that is all ;)
