Thanks Jerry,
I only spotted it at the last moment yesterday and added the link via my phone so didn't do it right for some reason:othe item is now finished and I didn't bid on it in the end as the seller didn't accept returns, if any one could still take a look somehow and let me know if it was a good one then I'd know if I ever spot another :D

Link does still not work.

If its ended and you did not buy it, perhaps pointless to look, but if you post the correct item number I will.....

That is the right item number.
You need to search under completed listings.

Simon's right, click on the link and when you get the page "0 results for ...." just scroll down the page until you see, on the left hand side, 'completed listings', tick the box and the beret will come up, sold for £64.02.

By the way, I wouldn't take too much notice of the seller's no returns policy. If the beret was not as described, ie a fake, you would be entitled to make an ebay claim to get your money back, regardless of the fact that he is a private seller.

I had seen this beret when it was still listed, first thing it that is is a Candian made beret, which is not something I have seen being issued to British troops, if it was a BD then yes, that did happen, but never seen it with a beret.

The other thing is the colour, Rifles regiments usually wear rifles green headdress, though during WWII (the beret is dated 1945 so I assume you mean that period or shortly after) Khaki berets were worn by motorised infantry units and officers, tan/beige berets were SF, which applies to Canadian units as well as UK.

It is a nice late war beret, but when or why the badge appeared on it I could not say or in fact what actual colour it is.

War time, rifles units are more likely to have worn the Cap General Service from mid 43 on, before that the Universal pattern field service cap.
If they were part of a motorised infantry unit from October 1942 (& originally recon corps, but they stopped wearing it later in the war), they would wear the khaki beret.

I think that if you wanted this as a wartime Rifles Beret, then you saved yourself some money.

Thanks to all for the feedback to my question, I didn't know the beret was Canadian so always learning that's good, with regards to the picture Jon,i had seen that picture before and tried to locate it again for the purpose of this thread but couldn't so thanks for that, shame the pics aren't in colour a lot of the time :( I didn't bid on the beret as not 100% so I'll keep looking and if any one sees an RB one let me know :D

it is not unreasonable to speculate that a British serviceman acquired headwear from a Commonwealth ally, as seen by the use of Canadian battledress by Tommy.
