Medical Branch Air Gunner?
 

Can anyone explain what seems to be a mismatch of Medical Branch collar badges worn with an Air Gunner's brevet/wing?

The photo would appear from the bits cropped out to have been taken in the early 1950s.

Grounded/Remustered Aircrew
 

Is it possible that the Sergeant was originally an Air Gunner who has subsequently re-mustered to Medical Branch after the War (there not being much call for Air Gunners) but as ex-aircrew he is still entitled to wear his hard earned 'AG' brevet? Alternatively he may have been medically downgraded.

My first SWO when I arrived at RAF Coltishall in 1977 was an ex-Air Gunner who still wore his brevet.

HI Jon , I would agree with that , an AG that is serving post war rather than a medic that has gone on to be an AG Nice photo.

This must have been a common sight in the 50's and 60's with the drawdown of aircraft and crews. Like Blueboy, my first operational posting - to RAF Colerne - in 1972, had a Station Warrant Officer who sported an AG brevet and Pathfinder Eagle. At the same time there was also a Corporal Clerk who also wore an AG brevet. The SWO having re-mustered post war, with the Corporal having left after hostilities and then re-enlisted, still having the right to wear his brevet.

The badges caught my attention.

I have a uniform to a Canadian squadron leader who was originally a navigator, but after the war retrained as a pharmacist with the RCAF and unified CAF. Unfortunately, the uniform is in the green unified form rather than the blue-grey wartime version.
