Liverpool Platoon, Manchester University OTC
 

With thanks to Forum member Simon ( Manchesters ) I have found some information about a query that I had had for some time.

Liverpool University did not have an OTC until 1919 and I had heard that students who wished to could join Manchester University OTC.

When I asked Simon if he had any information about this he kindly supplied me with some details from a history of Manchester and Salford Universities OTC which he has. This showed that during WW1, the War Office had agreed to the establishment of a Liverpool Platoon at Manchester University OTC which would number a maximum of 25% or 90 cadets of the unit. The cadets from Liverpool were to be known as intramural cadets.

The Liverpool Platoon was said to be wearing the badge of the Manchester Regiment,which was being worn by the Manchester contingent.

This may not be correct as some evidence suggests that by WW1 MUOTC had already adopted their ranpant Lion cap badge still worn today.If this was the case then presumably it was this badge that was worn by the Liverpool Platoon.

This is one of the fascinating aspects of our interest, an answer often produces more questions.

We don't often think of E bay as a source of evidence but this:

suggests that MUOTC might have been wearing the rampant lion cap badge ( and not the Manchester Regiment badge ) in 1914.
