Possibly intended to be affixed to one of those dreadful fake bugles that can be seen at every antique centre and every antique fair ?

Now you mention it I've seen enough A & S bugles for everyman in the battalion to be issued with one.

Probably another collecting area to be aware wary of.

Could be. In which case the white coating all over the back may very well be solder!
Having said that, I would have expected such a badge to be thin, whereas this specimen is relatively weighty.

Looks like it had wires or lugs at some point, so probably not affixed/soldered to a bugle
