4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards

Anyone aware of what you would look for on a 4th royal Irish dragoon guards badge pre 1922 for restrikes?

There are some old fakes which do not have the braising holes on the reverse

Also any all brass one is incorrect.

Hi Drmiggy, My advice is forget buying off ebay as most of the duds are on there, try a decent dealer like Rod Flood (Minden Militaria) or Geoff Newman or Lew & Garry Shotton (Castle Militaria) or Les Martin, they all have a reputation to keep and if your not completely satisfied a money back guarantee. regards John

I would think you would struggle to actually find a badge made prior to 1922 that was not original to that regiment, or indeed, most others, I should have a good look around if I were you, they are not at all scarce.

It feels original, the back looks fairly similar to others except it has a slider instead of lugs. Any views?

It is not fair enough to tempt me. Stick to buying from reputable dealers or from members of this forum. If you do buy from eBay and I do on occasion ensure the seller has a returns policy or buy on a Buy It Now basis, which will enable you to return your buy for a full refund for up to 30 days post receipt of the item. Best, PY.

I would not buy that, just from the photograph it does not appear to be original, although, without seeing it in the flesh it is not easy, the only thing that I would say would be to simply replace it with another that you are one hundred percent happy with.

Where did you get it from, I assume it was not expensive?

It cost be £15 from dare I say eBay!

Frank Kelley 03-06-18 11:57 AM

Well, you should certainly expect to pay, at least, twice that for any original.

Well i did warn you, ebay is just full of this absolute junk. but it's your money you're wasting, a good badge is an investment and you will always be able to resell it later. junk is just worthless.....lesson learned? regards John
