Musketry badge

Good afternoon
Can anyone tell me a little about this, what I presume to be a proficiency badge. It may be a marksman's arm badge? The lugs look like an economy measure maybe? Is it British and what probable date would it be? Thanks Martyn |
It is British and an old timer at that. It was worn on the lower left sleeve on OR's service dress (usually). Those type of lugs are a just a lesser seen variant, not an economy measure as far as I understand.

Many thanks. What date would it likely be?

Many thanks that's pleasing.

This is not my field, except that the lugs do not look British to me.
And is this not virtually identical to the badges you can buy at Bisley etc today? Eddie |
Cheers Eddie
I have done a little research and the lugs do apparently exist on British badges and this badge can be seen worn on the left arm of uniforms of ww1 British marksmen. I don't know when they stopped issuing this badge but it was obtained with a ww1 wound stripe so hopefully, does date to the suggested period. Regards Martyn |
